The purpose of the new group is to certify that every gaming machine in the UK is suitable for its intended use and complies with both regulatory and industry requirements. Alan Claypool has been appointed as the chairman of the group, while Matt Ingram will serve as the vice chair. Ingram currently holds the position of chief product officer at Reflex Gaming, while Claypool is the head of product at Blueprint Gaming.
Claypool emphasizes that the rise of digital gaming in land-based establishments has brought new technologies, applications, and improved player experiences to the gaming industry. Therefore, it is deemed necessary to reassess the existing industry standards set by BACTA.
Claypool also points out that the use of agreed technical standards within the industry ensures that machine operators are provided with a common groundwork across different technologies and gaming cabinets. This, in turn, enhances serviceability and configuration.
The group consists of various machine manufacturers and operators, as well as the Gambling Business Group. John White, the CEO of Bacta, expresses gratitude to Alan and Matt for their willingness to take on this substantial project. Formerly, industry standards were diligently managed by Bos Anderson, the Director of Technology at Bell-Fruit Games, and Bob Lawrence, formerly of Barcrest. However, Lawrence is now retired.
Bacta announced last year that Category D cash fruit machines in seaside arcades and family entertainment centers would be off-limits to individuals under 18 years old. This measure became effective on March 1.
