Potential Strategies to Mitigate the Risk of 250 Job Losses at Tombola

1 Min Read

Tombola, an online bingo company, was acquired by Flutter in January 2022 for £402.0m (€463.6m/$488.7m).

Last week, reports suggested that redundancies were being implemented at Tombola as part of cost-saving efforts.

A Tombola spokesperson confirmed that approximately 250 jobs are at risk, but there may be opportunities for redeployment, especially in the North East.

The at-risk positions are in Tombola’s customer experience team, which includes the chat, customer support, and safeplay teams.

Redundancies have become increasingly common in the industry, with other companies like Entain and Catena Media also experiencing job cuts.

Bally’s previously announced a restructuring plan that would result in a 15% reduction in its workforce in the North America interactive division.

Tombola reassured its commitment to the North East and confirmed that Sunderland will continue to serve as its head office.

Despite the potential redundancies, Tombola’s employee numbers have actually increased since the acquisition by Flutter.

At the end of 2021, Tombola had a headcount of 769 and a UK headcount of 629. Currently, the overall headcount is 847, with the UK headcount at 706.
