Louisiana sports betting sees stagnant growth in January

Louisiana’s sports-betting handle for January 2023 reached $317.8 million for online bets and $28.5 million for retail sportsbooks. This marked a 22.7% increase from the previous month, although it fell 8.1% short of December’s record handle of $377.0 million.

The state saw a total revenue of $38.9 million in January, a significant 72.1% increase from the previous year. However, this was 30.3% lower than December’s record revenue.

Year-to-date, Louisiana’s sports-betting handle has reached $1.96 billion, with $1.77 billion from online operators and $185.1 million from retail sportsbooks. The total revenue for the same period was $233.1 million, with $211.1 million from online betting and $22.0 million from retail wagering.

Louisiana has a total of 10 operators running online sportsbooks, including ESPN Bet, Bet Rovers, BetMGM, Caesars, DraftKings, FanDuel, PointsBet, Betway, Bet365, and ClutchBet. ClutchBet recently joined the market in January, while Bet365 started operating in November through a partnership with Boyd Gaming-owned Amelia Belle casino.
