The four state-owned land-based casinos in Kansas, namely Boot Hill Casino & Resort, Kansas Star Casino, Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway, and Kansas Crossing Casino & Hotel, will now be able to accept both in-person and mobile platform bets on sports. Tribal casinos are also in the process of negotiating compacts with the state to authorize sports wagering at their establishments. The Governor of Kansas, Laura Kelly, sees the legalization of sports betting as a sensible solution that will keep money within the state and boost business for various entertainment venues. The executive director of the Kansas Lottery, Stephen Durrell, expressed excitement about bringing sports betting to Kansas players and offering them more enjoyable gaming options. Sports betting in Kansas was made possible through the signing of Senate Bill 84 into law, which allows mobile app and casino wagering, as well as horse racing betting. The bill also permits lottery facility managers to partner with online sports betting operators to operate sports betting on behalf of the state’s lottery. Each lottery facility manager can have up to three interactive sports wagering platforms. Operators will be granted provisional licenses based on their performance in other states, and the selected platforms will be announced soon. Senate Bill 84 also provides a pathway for tribes to operate sports betting by negotiating new or existing gaming compacts.
