The total amount wagered in January was 47.2% higher than the previous year, reaching $39.8 million. This figure also represented a 6.7% increase compared to December 2021, which saw $58.6 million in bets. Although just shy of the record set in October, January’s wagers reached an impressive $60.2 million. Online betting accounted for $33.5 million of these wagers, while the remaining $25.1 million was placed at retail sportsbook facilities located at the Twin River and Tiverton Casino sites.
Twin River emerged as the preferred venue for sports bettors, with $18.8 million wagered at this location during the month. In contrast, the Tiverton Casino saw $6.3 million in bets. Overall revenue for January amounted to $5.2 million, marking a 40.5% increase from the previous year. This figure also represented a significant 334.2% growth compared to December 2021’s revenue of $1.2 million. Mobile revenue accounted for $2.9 million, while retail revenue reached $2.3 million, divided between $1.6 million at Twin River and $756,664 at the Tiverton Casino.
In terms of winnings, players in Rhode Island won a total of $53.4 million from sports betting activities during January. Looking at the financial year to date, the state’s total handle in the seven months leading up to January stood at $313.8 million. Revenue for the same period reached $25.1 million, while players accumulated $288.7 million in winnings.
