Increase in DC Sports Betting Revenue in October Despite Decrease in Year-on-Year Handle

The gross gaming revenue for sports betting in October was $3.1m (£2.6m/€3.0m), showing a significant increase from $1.6m in the same month last year. However, it was a decrease of 13.9% compared to the $3.6m revenue generated in September of this year.

The total amount bet by players, also known as handle, was $24.8m in October, slightly lower than the $26.3m wagered in the corresponding month of 2021. Nonetheless, it represented a 27.8% increase from the $19.4m handle in September this year.

Leading the way in sports betting revenue in Washington DC was Caesars, with $1.3m earned from $8.2m in total player bets during the month. Gambet, operated by the DC Lottery and powered by Intralot, followed closely with revenue of $838,108 and a $7.5m handle. BetMGM, in partnership with the Washington Nationals MLB team, generated $461,357 in revenue from $6.9m in wagers.

FanDuel, affiliated with Major League Soccer team DC United’s Audi Field, achieved $433,817 in revenue and had a handle of $1.7m. Lastly, Grand Central Bar, partnered with Elys Game Technology, recorded $103,555 in revenue from $531,635 in sports wagers.
