There has been a 50% increase in safer gambling communications, according to EGBA’s 2021-22 sustainability report. A total of 38 million communications were sent to users in 2021, marking a 123% increase. More than 20 million of these messages were personalized and targeted, showing a rise of 19.7 million compared to the previous year. Generic communications also increased by 9% to reach 15.5 million. EGBA secretary-general Maarten Haijer expressed satisfaction with the increased communication efforts by members to promote safer gambling and sustainability.
The commitment of CEOs to promoting sustainability is crucial, as demonstrated by their funding of research, implementation of innovative strategies, and investment in advanced tools and technologies. During this period, EGBA members contributed €499m to various European sports through sponsorship or streaming rights, reflecting a 22% increase. Haijer emphasized the importance of cooperation between the industry, research community, experts, prevention organizations, and technology providers to effectively address at-risk behavior and prevent it.
The European online gambling associations platform, established jointly with national associations in 2019, continues to grow and enhances collaboration on safer gambling. However, the EGBA cautioned about significant differences in problem gambling measurements among European countries, making direct comparisons challenging.
