The Bacta Charitable Trust, established in 1991 by the British Amusement Catering Trade Association (Bacta), has raised over £2.25m for various charitable causes in the UK. Some of the beneficiaries include the Prince’s Youth Business Trust and Macmillan Cancer Support.

As part of the Merkur Initiative program, Merkur UK made a donation to support smaller community-based charities. Over 40 groups have received assistance through this initiative, including an animal sanctuary, a foodbank in Manchester, a hospice roof appeal, a homelessness organization, the Gurkha Welfare Trust, and an organization that provides entertainment for children in hospitals.

“The contribution from Merkur UK is greatly appreciated by the Bacta Charitable Trust and underscores Merkur UK’s commitment to supporting community-focused initiatives,” said Jimmy Thomas, the chairman of the Bacta Charitable Trust.

Merkur UK’s general manager, Sascha Blodau, emphasized the importance of supporting smaller charities that may not receive as much recognition as larger organizations. The Merkur Initiative aims to show that it is possible to be a successful commercial entity while also being a socially responsible corporate citizen.
