Leung will succeed Leong Cheung as the new head of the Jockey Club and will report directly to the chief executive, Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges.

Leong Cheung, the current head of the Jockey Club, will be leaving in August next year when his contract expires.

Prior to his appointment, Leung served as the Dean of the University of Hong Kong’s Faculty of Medicine and was one of the expert advisors during the Covid-19 pandemic in the Special Administrative Region.

Leung also had previous experience in the Hong Kong government, having served as the undersecretary for food and health from 2008 to 2012.

In his new role, Leung will be responsible for developing and implementing the Jockey Club’s charitable strategies and policies, ensuring the effective and appropriate use of funds to create a positive social impact.

He will focus on expanding the Jockey Club’s charitable efforts, adapting them to meet the changing needs of Hong Kong, and strengthening relationships with key stakeholders as the organization’s programs and initiatives are expanded.
