Gamstop, a social-responsibility initiative, has experienced significant growth in registrations. In April, it surpassed the milestone of 200,000 registrations. As of now, more than 67,000 people have registered this year, which surpasses the 51,000 registrations in the entire year of 2020. March 2021 was the second-highest month for registrations, with 7,047 new registrations recorded.
Out of the 250,000 people registered with Gamstop, over 228,000 are currently utilizing the self-exclusion service. It is now mandatory for all licensed online operators in Great Britain to be registered with Gamstop since March 31, 2020.
Gamstop’s chief executive, Fiona Palmer, expressed surprise at the higher registration levels this year, attributing it to various factors such as making the registration process easier and increasing their visibility to potential users. The effects of the pandemic may also have contributed to the rise in registrations.
Gamstop recently published the results of an independent evaluation of its scheme in the first three months of this year. The evaluation indicated that the majority of users found Gamstop to be helpful in their ongoing recovery. This feedback reassured the Gamstop team and stakeholders and will likely encourage more individuals to register.
Gamstop receives support from financial services organizations and treatment providers such as Citizens Advice, Gamcare, the Northern Gambling Clinic, Gordon Moody, Peer Aid, and Betknowmore. Additionally, football clubs like Crystal Palace and Brentford from the Premier League have pledged their backing for Gamstop.
