The Q2 total of suspicious betting alerts was lower than the previous year, but higher than Q1 2023. Football generated the most alerts for the second quarter, followed by tennis, table tennis, and darts. Other sports such as boxing, bowls, esports, and badminton also had alerts reported.
Europe had the highest number of suspicious betting alerts, with tennis being the primary source, followed by table tennis and football. The UK had the highest proportion of alerts, followed by Estonia, the Czech Republic, and Italy. Alerts were also reported in other European countries.
Africa had seven alerts, all related to football. South America had six alerts, with football being the dominant sport in Brazil and tennis in Chile. North America had only two alerts, one for football in Cuba and one for tennis in the Dominican Republic. There was also one esports alert that couldn’t be assigned to a specific country.
In Q2, IBIA expanded its network by adding Olybet and partnering with the Portuguese Online Betting and Gambling Association. They also collaborated with the Brazilian Institute of Responsible Gaming to address match-fixing in Brazil.
