Muijser will join the Royal Booksellers Union in his new role on 1 October. Earlier this year, Henry Meijdam was appointed as the new chairman of Van Kansspelen, replacing the former interim chairman Aad Kobus. Muijser expressed his gratitude for his time as general secretary, particularly highlighting the implementation of the Remote Gambling Act (KOA). He stated, “The past ten years have gone by quickly. As a trade organization, we successfully oversaw the introduction of the Remote Gambling Act, which had a significant impact on the slot machine sector. The resilience of the sector was evident during the COVID-19 pandemic. I had a pleasant and dynamic experience and would like to thank everyone within and outside the association for their cooperation.”
The period during the enactment of KOA faced challenges with multiple delays. Initially planned for 1 July 2020, it was postponed until 1 October 2021. Meijdam acknowledged Muijser’s valuable contribution during his time with Van Kansspelen, particularly on complex issues such as the introduction of the Remote Gambling Act, the impact of the coronavirus crisis, and the development of the gambling advertising code.
The Dutch government implemented a ban on most forms of gambling advertising in July. This ban extends to television, radio, print, as well as public spaces like billboards and bus shelters.
