Dawson, a former federal law enforcement agent with 23 years of experience, will now serve as a law enforcement liaison for GeoComply. Throughout his career, he specialized in investigating cybercrime, fraud, and money laundering related to cryptocurrency. GeoComply’s director of risk services, Danny DiRienzo, explained that while the company uses automated fraud alerts, they recognize the need for human analysis to keep up with evolving fraud tactics.
The risk services team at GeoComply has seen significant growth over the past year, expanding its portfolio to cover fraud, risk management, field compliance, and law enforcement support. The team’s goal is to help customers identify and address high-risk behavior, mitigate risks, and involve law enforcement agencies when necessary.
Dawson expressed his excitement about joining GeoComply as a law enforcement liaison, stating that their advanced technology, particularly geolocation, would have greatly assisted his previous investigations. His experience includes leading the multi-agency transnational organized crime investigation called “Operation Crypto Runner,” which targeted illicit digital goods, arrested criminals, and disrupted global digital money laundering.
In 1999, Dawson joined the US Secret Service and worked closely with various organizations such as local and federal law enforcement, academia, and private businesses. Recognized as a subject matter expert, he has also been a guest lecturer on fraud, money laundering, cryptocurrencies, and organized crime.
GeoComply recently hired Vadim Jelezniakov, former Meta director of engineering, as their new chief technology officer.
