In March, it was agreed with Huffnagel that his term would be extended for one year, and would be evaluated in October on the basis of developments regarding the Dutch remote gambling act (KoA) and the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
During the evaluation, Huffnagel expressed his desire to step down from his position on 1 November to make more time for his other activities, which the board agreed to.
He commented, “It is with great pleasure and dedication that I have represented the interests of VAN Kansspelen members to the government in The Hague in recent years. We have worked hard to improve the industry’s reputation and engage with the right partners for discussions.”
“This work has yielded important results, especially during this challenging year when the industry has been heavily impacted by the Covid-19 crisis. Although the crisis is not yet over, with the introduction of the Remote Gambling Act (KoA) on 1 March 2021, I feel that my most significant task has been fulfilled after more than seven years.”
Huffnagel mentioned his new challenges, such as his communications agency, Castro Communicatie, which he established with his partner two years ago. He explained that due to the pandemic, they have been approached by several entrepreneurs and organizations seeking assistance, and therefore he believes it is the right time to shift his focus.
Vice chair Aad Kobus has agreed to temporarily assume Huffnagel’s role until a new chairman is appointed.
