Nygaard-Andersen resigned as CEO of Entain in December 2023. She took over the position in January 2021 after Shay Segev left to join Dazn. Stella David, currently a non-executive director, is currently serving as interim CEO as the company searches for a permanent replacement. Nygaard-Andersen led Entain from January 2021 and recently shared a statement on her LinkedIn page expressing her belief that she leaves the company in a better position than ever before.

During her tenure, Nygaard-Andersen focused on transforming Entain into a responsible operator with high standards of governance, compliance, and player safety. She implemented an effective strategy for further market growth and improved the quality of earnings. Despite the challenging circumstances of the pandemic, she successfully led Entain through a period of retail restrictions, resulting in increased online gambling activity.

Nygaard-Andersen praised the professionalism and dedication of Entain staff during the pandemic, highlighting their ability to navigate challenges and prioritize customer satisfaction. As a result, Entain now operates in over 30 territories with 30,000 employees.

As for Nygaard-Andersen’s future plans, she will take a break before deciding on her next move. While uncertain about her next executive opportunity, she acknowledges the enormous potential for innovation in the gaming industry and expresses gratitude for the talented individuals she has worked with during her time at Entain.

Following Nygaard-Andersen’s departure, Entain has undergone several changes in its leadership. Stella David is currently serving as interim CEO, while Pierre Bouchut has been appointed as senior independent director. Virginia McDowell and Rahul Welde have taken on new roles within the organization. Additionally, Ricky Sandler, a non-executive director who previously opposed Entain’s strategy, has been added to the board. The new board members will continue to guide Entain in the wake of resolving a case with the Crown Prosecution Service.

Despite recent challenges and concerns over business growth, Entain remains committed to its online division. The joint venture with MGM Resorts International, BetMGM, recently expanded into the UK alongside LeoVegas. Entain has also made notable acquisitions, including Polish sportsbook operator STS Holding and Angstrom Sports, to enhance its offerings.

Reports suggest that Entain is withdrawing from over 140 unregulated markets worldwide, focusing on larger, more regulated markets such as Argentina, Russia, and Ukraine.
