Valencia Galiano has been appointed to replace Juan Pérez Hidalgo, who recently resigned from his role as the head of the regulator. Galiano brings 40 years of experience from Smurfit Kappa, an expert in producing corrugated cardboard and paper packaging. During his time at Smurfit Kappa, Galiano held various senior positions, including vice president for Central America and the Caribbean. Additionally, Galiano served as the president of the Association of Corrugators of the Caribbean, Central and South America on two occasions.

This appointment follows Coljuegos’ announcement that the government has collected over COP2.8tn in gaming taxes since 2015. In 2019 alone, the industry generated COP668bn, marking a significant increase of 76% from the COP380bn collected in 2015. Despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the country has managed to collect COP254bn as of September 2020.
