The Office has identified that the public is currently exposed to gambling advertising through various channels including television, radio, sponsorship, and outdoor ads. They have also observed that ads for unregulated gambling products have the potential to reach children and individuals already suffering from gambling-related issues.
David Lenčéš, the director general of the Office, emphasized the importance of having clear standards for responsible advertising in the country. In line with this, they are developing an Action Plan for Responsible Advertising, which will involve a discussion among stakeholders with the aim of creating an industry code for responsible advertising.
This initiative will examine the volume and content of gambling advertisements and their target audience. Lenčéš highlighted the need to consider vulnerable groups and children while providing clear and user-friendly information about operators’ products and services. It is equally essential to raise awareness about the risks of problem gambling, financial losses, responsible gambling, and the available assistance for treating non-substance addictions.
The Office believes that there are sufficient grounds for regulatory action to protect customers from the harmful effects of gambling; however, they currently view self-regulation as the most effective mechanism. Their overall goal is to establish a safe and legally predictable environment for both gambling operators and consumers.
By fostering professional cooperation, the outcome of this initiative could potentially provide a basis for future legislation.
