BGC calls for active collaboration in curbing social media marketing among marketing-affiliates

The Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) has requested increased pressure on social media companies from the UK government to address problem gambling among individuals under 25. BGC’s chief executive, Michael Dugher, wrote a letter to the culture secretary, Lucy Frazer MP, emphasizing the importance of cooperation from social media platforms. The BGC is eager to implement a solution, but it requires the collaboration of these platforms. Dugher urges the culture secretary to call on social media companies to work with the BGC and make relevant tools available to protect vulnerable individuals. The government’s Gambling Act Review white paper highlights the focus on tackling gambling issues among under-25s. Dugher also mentions a previous BGC initiative that allowed customers to opt out of gambling marketing on social media platforms. The BGC recently announced that Safer Gambling Week 2023 will take place from 13-19 November.
