Lotto24 has secured a seven-year licence to continue offering its lottery brokerage products nationwide until 30 June 2029, in compliance with the new State Gambling Treaty (GlüNeuRStV). This follow-up licence is Zeal’s first under the GlüNeuRStV, which became effective on 1 July the previous year. The previous licence of Lotto24 had a validity period from 26 July 2017 to 30 June this year and has now been renewed for the third time, having been initially approved in 2012 and again in 2017. Notably, Zeal mentioned that a separate advertising licence is no longer required under the State Gambling Treaty. The responsible gambling authority currently is the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior and Sport, and it will transition to the Gemeinsame Glücksspielbehörde der Länder, the new national gambling authority based in Saarland, from January 2023. Zeal’s CEO, Helmut Becker, expressed delight in the federal states’ trust and emphasized the company’s reliability under administrative law, which has been established over the past 10 years.
Zeal’s licence renewal follows an impressive performance in the first quarter of its 2022 financial year, where it reported a 101.6% YoY increase in net profit due to higher revenues and reduced operating costs. Additionally, the new State Treaty now permits the granting of licences for online slots and table games for the first time. However, as of now, only Mernov, a subsidiary of the Gauselmann Group, which operates the Jackpot Piraten and Bing Bong brands, has obtained certification.
