Loto Québec’s revenue for the year ended 31 March decreased by 3.1% to CAD$2.74bn (US$2.08bn) due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic in the final weeks of the year. However, the operator’s profit remained strong at $1.35bn, surpassing the target despite the challenging circumstances.
Despite the impact of the pandemic, the lottery industry continued to thrive, with casinos leading the way in generating revenue. In the last fiscal year, casinos raked in an impressive $963.7 million, reflecting a 5.0% increase compared to the previous year. Out of this total, $694.8 million was contributed by land-based gaming, which experienced a slight decline of 5.1%.
The revenue from the online casino increased by 25.7% to $96.4m. Additionally, the inclusion of the Salons de Jeux gaming hall chain in the division’s figures resulted in an additional $66.5m. Overall, these positive factors offset any negative impact on the lottery revenue.

A total of $87.0m in casino revenue was generated from food and beverages, reflecting a decrease of 1.8%. Additionally, $19.2m in revenue was generated from accommodation, representing a decline of 6.4%.
