GLMS will use the Alcohol and Gaming Commission (AGCO) licence to support its member, the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG), with lottery monitoring and education services. GLMS aims to raise awareness and combat sports competition manipulation through inter-jurisdictional and inter-stakeholder cooperation efforts. Obtaining its licence shortly after the launch of Ontario’s legal online gambling market, GLMS is one of the first registered integrity bodies approved by the AGCO.
Ludovico Calvi, GLMS president, expressed his delight in this achievement and emphasized GLMS’s support for regulated, responsible, and sustainable betting market environments. He highlighted that bans often favor black market proliferation, criminal organizations, and match fixing. GLMS enjoys a strong working collaboration with the AGCO and has provided its perspective on developing gaming standards for the registrar. These standards, published in the summer of 2021, are expected to create a sustainable sports betting market in Ontario and serve as a best practice for other Canadian provinces.
GLMS is excited to offer integrity services to its current and future members in Ontario and other provinces. The launch of Ontario’s online gambling market came after almost three years of work, following the provincial government’s decision to end the lottery’s online gambling monopoly in April 2019. Legislation was introduced in 2020 to establish a licensing regime, enabling major gambling groups like FanDuel and BetMGM to obtain licenses for operation in Ontario.
