The National Lottery operator, Camelot, has launched legal proceedings against the Gambling Commission after it chose Allwyn as the first non-Camelot business to operate the lottery. Camelot, the current licensee, believes that the decision was incorrect and is seeking clarification from the court. The change in operators may impact numerous employees, and Camelot insists that they deserve a detailed explanation of Allwyn’s selection.
The selection process is under scrutiny, with reports suggesting that Camelot initially received the highest score in the assessment, but the scoring system was adjusted, resulting in Allwyn taking the lead. The Gambling Commission defends its process and believes it will win the legal challenge.
While the legal proceedings may disrupt the transition to the fourth licence, the Gambling Commission still trusts Camelot to fulfill its obligations until February 2024. Both parties aim to ensure a seamless and timely transition for the benefit of participants and good causes.
