Allwyn, formerly known as Sazka, has taken over the operations and products of the National Lottery from the previous operator, Camelot. Allwyn secured the fourth license amidst tough competition from other contenders such as Camelot, The New Lottery Company, and Sisal.
The National Lottery covers various games including the main Lotto draw, Set For Life, Thunderball, Hotpicks, scratchcards, and UK access to EuroMillions. Allwyn has introduced new initiatives like the ‘Incentive Mechanism’ to ensure consistent contributions to good causes and will only see profits increase if the returns to good causes go up.
The Chief Executive of the Commission, Andrew Rhodes, referred to Allwyn taking control as a “historic moment” and a significant milestone for the regulatory body. The Commission is dedicated to working with Allwyn and the government to make the fourth license a success for players and the good causes it supports across the country.
Securing the fourth license was not an easy task for Allwyn. There were legal challenges and criticism from Camelot and its technology provider, International Game Technology. However, Camelot later withdrew its high court challenge, clearing the path for Allwyn’s formal award of the license.
Although the Camelot name will no longer be associated with the National Lottery, Allwyn has purchased Camelot UK and Camelot Lottery Solutions, ensuring the legacy of Camelot continues under the new operator. Allwyn has also assembled a strong leadership team and support staff to prepare for taking control of the National Lottery.
