The bill to implement gambling software licences in Sweden has not yet become law.

The Swedish government proposed this measure to increase the level of channelisation in the market.

The bill has not yet gone to a vote in the Riksdag.

Despite the recent election results, Spelinspektionen is still working to ensure the bill can come into effect if passed.

The bill states that the new licence regime will begin on 1 July 2023.

To meet this deadline, applications for licences will open on 1 March 2023.

Suppliers are encouraged to prepare their applications to be submitted from this date.

The purpose of the license requirement for gaming software is to discourage illegal gambling.

Unlicensed game operators will not be able to use suppliers who manufacture, provide, install, and/or change game software for licensed operators in Sweden.

In March, the government published details of the rules for supplier licences.

The application fee for supplier licences would be SEK120,000.

Approximately 70 software licences are expected to be issued at the launch.
