This operation was involved in accepting illegal wagers and engaging in suspected illegal gambling activities. Monthly horse racing meets were organized and promoted on social media platforms, attracting bettors from Washington, Oregon, and other western states.
During undercover operations, it was discovered that bets were being placed both with the race organizers and among the attendees of the horse racing events. Additionally, raffles were conducted with small-scale prizes, including horses and cars as notable awards. It is important to note that sports betting was recently legalized at tribal casinos in Washington, following the approval of betting amendments with nine Native American casino operators by the US Department of Interiors in September.
According to a recent study conducted by Washington State University, the growing Washington betting market has the potential to reach a value of $93.8 million by 2026. The introduction of in-person registration could reduce the value of the retail market to $59.5 million, while creating a mature online sports betting market valued at $132.0 million. The implementation of sports betting could also lead to the creation of up to 1,182 jobs.
