Dutch regulator Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) has issued a five-year licence to LeoVegas, allowing the operator to provide online casino, live casino, and sports betting services in the Netherlands. LeoVegas plans to launch its services in the country during the second half of this year, recognizing the great potential of the Dutch market in their global growth journey.
Previously active in the Netherlands, LeoVegas had to halt its operations when the country implemented online gambling regulations. With the market now regulated, LeoVegas aims to resume its Dutch journey after securing a gaming licence. It should be noted that operators offering gaming services without the necessary licence can face disciplinary action from KSA, which may have implications for future licence applications.
While LeoVegas prepares to relaunch in the Netherlands, Betsson has withdrawn its application for a Dutch licence due to significant delays in the approval process. Betsson had also previously exited the country in 2021 before the Dutch regulated online gambling market launched.
Allegations have been made against MGM Resorts, LeoVegas’ parent company, suggesting that the use of the LeoVegas brand in Japan for illegal online gambling activities. However, MGM Resorts denies these claims, stating that it acquired LeoVegas with the condition that access to the operator’s site from within Japan be blocked. MGM also clarifies that it has no connection with the Casino Leo brand in Japan.
