The campaign will run from today (26 April) until the beginning of the UEFA Euro 2021 tournament on 11 June. The regulator aims to educate consumers on the distinction between legal and illegal online gambling. Operators with written permission from the Commission will display the Always Play Legally logo to indicate their licensing in Belgium. Approximately 20% of gaming customers in Belgium choose unlicensed operators, which do not undergo regular checks by the commission. Playing with unlicensed operators poses significant risks, including the absence of player protection measures and uncertainty regarding payouts. Players may not be aware of these risks and may be unsure of the legality of the sites they use. The campaign will include video clips that address common player questions and highlight the dangers of playing with unlicensed operators. The CJH will release new clips weekly until the start of the UEFA Euro 2021. The regulator recently partnered with the Kansspelautoriteit, its Dutch counterpart, to collaborate on player protection efforts and combatting illegal gambling. In February, Belgium reduced the maximum number of online sports betting licenses permitted in the jurisdiction from 34 to 31.
Legal Compliance emphasized with ‘Always Play Legally’ campaign launched by the Belgian Gaming Commission
