Basildon Crown Court convicted Howard after a four-week trial for charges including conspiracy to commit fraud against the bank Santander. He was found guilty but not charged with money laundering. The charges were related to a syndicate that created online accounts to bypass betting limitations and collect bonuses not available under Bet365’s terms and conditions. Howard obtained the details of willing participants and impersonated them to access Bet365 services unlawfully. Over 1,000 online gambling accounts were involved in this fraudulent enterprise that began in 2008. Howard received approximately £236,000 from this fraud. Detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate led a lengthy investigation, which culminated in a search warrant at Howard’s address in Stapleford Tawney in February 2019. The investigation revealed numerous documents, receipts, bank records, and 177 sim cards, all linked to substantial sums of money.
