The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will facilitate the sharing of information and promote collaboration in the area of online gambling and its associated regulatory challenges. The focus of this partnership will be on safeguarding players from the risks of gambling-related harm, as well as preventing crimes such as money laundering and terrorist financing.

“The MoU lays a solid foundation for knowledge sharing, cooperation, and seamless exchange of information,” remarked René Jansen, Chairman of the KSA (Netherlands Gambling Authority). “It also sends a clear message to game providers that international cooperation is essential, as online gambling transcends national borders. It is vital that regulators work hand-in-hand.”

This new MoU aligns with the upcoming legalization of online gambling in the Netherlands, which has faced multiple delays. The Remote Gambling Act (KOA) came into force on April 1st of this year, and the KSA has begun the licensing process for operators looking to offer online gaming services in the country. Approximately 35 licenses are expected to be issued by the KSA. However, operators will not be able to commence their online gaming activities in the Netherlands until October 1st, when the market officially opens. The implementation of the Remote Gambling Act had initially been scheduled for July 1st of the previous year but was postponed three times.
