In Q3, the revenue for the finance sector in Spain reached €240.8m, surpassing the amount from the previous year. However, this total fell 2.7% short of the €312.6m generated in Q2 of this year.
Breaking down the Q3 figures, casino revenue was the primary source of GGR in Spain, amounting to €160.3m. This represents a 25.3% increase compared to last year and accounts for 52.7% of the overall market. The live roulette sector experienced the highest growth with a 27.8% increase in GGR. Additionally, the slots segment saw significant growth with GGR jumping 25.9%. Quarter-on-quarter performance showed an 11.5% increase in blackjack GGR, 8.1% in slots, and 5.4% in live roulette. However, conventional roulette GGR declined by 2.2% compared to Q2.
Sports betting revenue in Q3 exceeded €113.0m, showing a year-on-year increase of 22.7%. This accounted for 37.3% of all GGR during this quarter. Pre-match bet GGR experienced a decline of 31.7% from Q2, while in-play wagers slipped by 0.3%. GGR from fixed-odds bets also declined by 9.5%. On the other hand, other fixed-odds betting revenue increased by 46.1% compared to Q2.
Poker GGR reached €26.8m, a 22.0% increase from Q3 last year and 4.1% higher than Q2 2023. GGR from poker tournaments was 31.1% higher than last year and up 3.4% from Q2, while poker cash GGR experienced a 2.1% year-on-year increase and 6.1% growth compared to Q2. Revenue from bingo slipped by 1.0% year-on-year to €3.6m but was 2.9% ahead of Q2. GGR from contests was 56.6% higher than last year at €50,000, but 68.4% behind Q2.
In terms of consumer behavior, deposits in Q3 totaled €921.8m, an 11.9% increase from last year but slightly lower than Q2. Withdrawals amounted to €615.9m, showing a year-on-year rise of 8.1% but 2.9% lower than Q2. The number of new accounts opened in Q3 reached 322,709, surpassing both the previous year and the second quarter. The monthly average of active game accounts stood at 1,082,743, up 10.6% from last year but 4.6% behind Q2.
Regarding operator spending, marketing costs in Q3 reached €93.3m, a 12.0% increase year-on-year but 4.9% lower than Q2. The primary source of gambling marketing in Spain during this quarter was promotions, with a spend of €47.7m. An additional €33.2m was allocated to advertising and €11.6m was spent on affiliates. It is worth noting that there were 78 licensed operators active in Spain during Q3. Out of these, 50 offered casino services, 42 provided sports betting, 9 offered poker, 3 had bingo, and 2 held contests.
