Revenue in the regulated igaming market reached €328.5m last month, marking a 14% increase from April and a 94% rise from May of the previous year. The sports betting vertical played a significant role in driving this growth, with sports betting GGR reaching €153.6m in May, all from online sources. This represents a substantial 48.3% increase from April. Casino revenue, on the other hand, experienced a slight 3.8% decrease from April but still saw a noteworthy 32% increase compared to May of the previous year, generating €155.1m in revenue. Consequently, the market shares between casino and betting became more balanced, with casino accounting for 47.22% and betting for 46.74% of the total market last month.

Even when faced with retail closures, betting brands with a physical presence performed better than online-only operators. Bet365, for instance, experienced a decline in market share to its lowest point in four years, standing at 8.9%. Sisal led the market with a share of 13.1%, up from the previous month’s 12.8%, while Goldbet closely followed at 12.8%, up from 11.8%. In the casino sector, Pokerstars, the online-only operator, also saw a decline in market share but maintained its lead with 9.82%. Sisal took second place with 9.10%, and Lottomatica came in third with 7.99%.

Despite Pokerstars’ dominant position in the Italian poker market, the sector as a whole experienced a decline. Tournament revenue and cash revenue both decreased by 21% and 16% respectively from the previous month. When compared to May of the previous year, tournament revenue dropped by 42.2% and cash revenue by 36.4%. These figures indicate the ongoing decline of the Italian poker market.
