Pennsylvania sees $71.5 million in Super Bowl betting activity

Super Bowl 2024 saw a total of $71.4m in wagers placed through retail and online sportsbooks in Pennsylvania, marking a 15.1% decrease from the previous year when the Philadelphia Eagles faced off against the Kansas City Chiefs. After payouts, revenue is projected to reach $11.0m, a significant 62.7% drop from the $29.7m generated in the previous year’s Super Bowl.

This marked the sixth year of legal sports betting in Pennsylvania for the Super Bowl, with online sports betting in the state entering its fourth year. Bettors had a choice of 18 retail locations and 12 online betting sites to place their bets.

Online wagers for Super Bowl 2024 totaled $64.6m, down 12.5% from the previous year’s online wagers. Retail bets accounted for the remaining $6.8m, showing a 33.4% decrease from the previous year. Revenue projections indicate $451,039 for retail (down 90.4%) and $10.6m for online (down 57.6%) sports betting.

During the Super Bowl weekend, more than 875,000 online wagering accounts were active in Pennsylvania, representing a 10.4% increase from the previous year. GeoComply conducted 13.6m geolocation checks to ensure compliance with state regulations.

Across the US, states reported record-breaking Super Bowl betting numbers, with Nevada setting a state record of $185.6m in bets. A survey by the American Gaming Association estimated a total of $23.10bn would be wagered on the Super Bowl nationwide.
