October Gambling Revenue in New Jersey Surges 9.3% Year-on-Year, Signifying Growth in Finance Sector

Total market revenue in New Jersey reached $487.1m in October, surpassing last year’s figure of $445.7m but falling 6.6% behind September’s $521.5m.

Revenue from retail slots decreased by 1.9% to $163.0m in October, while land-based table games revenue grew by 19.7% to $65.1m, resulting in a total revenue increase of 3.4% to $228.1m from the retail casino sector.

In contrast to the decline in retail slots, revenue from authorized online games, including internet slots, rose by 13.4% to $164.4m in October. Online peer-to-peer poker games revenue also increased by 6.2% to $2.4m. Overall, revenue from igaming reached $166.8m, a 13.3% increase from the previous year.

Golden Nugget emerged as the leading operator in the New Jersey igaming segment with revenue of $49.4m, followed by Resorts Digital with $46.0m. Borgata ranked third with $35.6m in igaming revenue for the month.

In the sports betting sector, revenue in New Jersey grew by 18.4% in October, amounting to $92.3m compared to $77.9m in the same month last year. Players wagered a total of $1.29bn on sports during October, a 21.7% increase from the previous year. Online sports betting accounted for $1.24bn of the total wagered, while retail betting reached $56.3m.

Operator-wise, Meadowlands, along with partners FanDuel, PointsBet, and SuperBook, achieved the highest revenue of $60.2m in October, reclaiming the top spot. DraftKings and partner Resorts World slipped to second place with $15.3m in revenue, while Borgata and BetMGM ranked third with $7.8m in sports betting revenue.

Year-to-date, New Jersey has generated gambling revenue of $4.77bn, reflecting a 10.6% increase compared to the same period in 2022. Land-based casino revenue rose by 1.9% to $2.40bn, with slots contributing $1.78bn (2.4% increase) and table games generating $625.0m (0.4% increase). Online gambling revenue recorded a 15.1% year-on-year increase, reaching $1.57bn. Internet authorized games revenue amounted to $1.55bn (15.3% increase), while online poker revenue grew by 6.5% to $24.6m. Sports betting revenue surged by 34.7% to $801.3m, and the total wagering handle for the year reached $9.06bn.
