Chinese Lottery Sales Experience Significant Decline in August

The revenue for the Sports Lottery in August was CNY21.15bn, which is a 15.3% decrease compared to the previous month and a 1.7% decrease year-on-year. The Welfare Lottery generated CNY11.45bn in revenue, showing a 1.7% increase compared to July but a 13.57% decline compared to the previous August.

Digital lottery sales totaled CNY12.81bn, with CNY5.46bn coming from Sports Lottery digital sales, showing a significant 78.1% decrease month-on-month. The remaining CNY7.34bn was generated from Welfare Lottery digital sales, which experienced a 39.9% drop compared to July.

For the Welfare Lottery, instant lottery sales amounted to CNY1.95bn, representing a 3.8% decrease compared to July. Keno sales reached CNY2.14bn, showing a monthly decline of 10.5%. The Sports Lottery’s instant lottery sales were CNY1.71bn, reflecting a 7.9% decline compared to the previous month.

The total sales for betting and prediction games were CNY1.39bn, indicating a loss of 21.1% since July. Guangdong had the highest lottery sales, reaching CNY3.22bn. Zhejiang ranked second with CNY2.49bn, and Jiāngsū saw a total of CNY2.24bn in sales. The total sales for the year so far amount to 247.29bn.
