A recent report conducted in the UK, which surveyed 16,000 residents, has revealed some interesting insights about the gaming habits of dads aged 25-44. It turns out that two thirds of dads in this age group are considered “regular gamers”. Surprisingly, the research also found that gamers are significantly more likely to participate in betting and igaming, with up to 4.3 times and 4.5 times higher likelihood respectively.
This research by Entain challenges the common belief that video games are primarily for young people, specifically Generation Z. Contrary to this notion, the study discovered that men with children are actually more likely to engage in video games compared to men without kids. Additionally, men aged 25-44 are twice as likely as women to spend their free time playing video games or watching esports.
According to Dom Grounsell, the deputy director of digital at Entain, enthusiasm for gaming is not limited to younger generations. People of all ages, especially middle-aged dads, enjoy gaming and are eager to explore new and exciting content. Recognizing this demand, Entain is dedicated to developing new interactive experiences with enhanced gaming and social features.
The study also unveiled some other noteworthy findings. Around 53% of British adults under the age of 24 engage in video games on a weekly basis. The age ranges of 25-34 and 35-44 closely follow with percentages of 46% and 36% respectively. Regarding esports, although the audience is more niche, the relative breakdown remains consistent. Only 1% of adults under 24 watch esports weekly, followed by 9% of 25-34-year-olds and 6% of 35-44-year-olds.
It’s worth mentioning that Entain has recently exhibited an amplified interest in the video game sector. In July 2021, they launched “Mind Your Game,” an initiative focused on promoting safe play and addressing mental health issues commonly experienced by gamers. This initiative provides valuable resources and support for families affected by these challenges.
