The investigation revolves around a manipulation incident during an ESEA tournament in the esports industry. Members of the Rebirth team were caught discussing plans to fix the outcome of a match. The recorded conversation and its transcript were handed over to ESIC (Esports Integrity Commission).
As a result, Sebastian “retchy” Tropiano and Kevin “4pack” Przypasniak have been banned for five years starting from 2 April. Carson “nosraC” O’Reilly, on the other hand, has already served a 111-day ban. O’Reilly’s ban was shorter because he was only heard uttering one inconclusive sentence in the recording.
ESIC thoroughly examined O’Reilly’s involvement in the conversation and conducted additional investigations to check for any further participation in corrupt activities beyond the recording. As of 22 July 2021, ESIC has concluded that there is no evidence suggesting O’Reilly engaged in any other violations like Tropiano and Przypasniak. Consequently, O’Reilly’s suspension from 2 April 2021 to 22 July 2021 is deemed a sufficient penalty for his offense, and he has been cleared to participate in ESIC member events since 22 July 2021.
ESIC’s inquiry is still ongoing, with 34 additional investigations being conducted in relation to the matter. The organization decided to publish these sanctions early because the incriminating recording was already made public in April.
ESIC recently imposed a 12-month ban on three players from ESL Legends of Runeterra (LoR) after they were caught cheating in a tournament.
To enhance transparency, ESIC has introduced a new initiative where it will maintain a register of ongoing investigations.
