The Liquor and Gambling Commissioner of the state has directed SkyCity to appoint a “suitably qualified expert” to review its AML/CTF and problem gambling policies at its SkyCity Adelaide property.
The expert will monitor SkyCity’s implementation of new enhancement programmes and ensure the casino’s compliance with ongoing money laundering and gambling harm minimisation obligations.
The direction was issued after careful consideration of the allegations made in Austrac’s prosecution of SkyCity for AML/CTF failings.
Austrac accused the operator of serious and systemic non-compliance with the country’s money laundering laws.
Hon Brian Martin’s review of SkyCity Adelaide’s suitability to hold a casino licence was put on hold pending the outcome of the case.
Soulio will consider appropriate action while the review is paused.
Soulio believes it is important for SkyCity Adelaide to demonstrate compliance with regulatory obligations and minimize gambling harm.
The independent monitor will have the power to seek amendments to the organization’s enhancement programs, subject to the Commissioner’s approval.
Soulio stated that this matter is taken seriously to ensure confidence in SkyCity Adelaide’s operations.
SkyCity and SkyCity Adelaide will cooperate with requests for information and documents from consumer and business services.
