April Detroit Casino Games Revenue Surges by 8.9% Year-over-Year

According to figures published by the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB), the monthly revenue generated from casino games in April exceeded $109.9 million, surpassing the previous year’s total. However, it was slightly lower compared to the revenue generated in March this year, which stood at $122.9 million. This decrease can be attributed to the removal of Covid-19 restrictions this year, allowing the casinos to operate at full capacity.

The MGM Grand Detroit maintained its position as the market leader with a 48% market share, followed by MotorCity Casino with 31% and Penn National’s Greektown Casino Hotel with 21%.

Among the revenue sources, table games and slots accounted for the majority of the revenue in April with $116.9 million, representing an 8.8% increase compared to the previous year. MGM Grand Detroit led in this category with $56.8 million, experiencing a significant 31.4% growth. However, MotorCity Casino observed an 8.8% decline in revenue amounting to $36.4 million, while the Greektown Casino experienced a 2.6% decrease to $23.7 million.

In terms of sports betting, the total qualified adjusted gross receipts (QAGR) reached $1.9 million, marking a 21.3% increase from the previous year. Greektown Casino led the pack with $912,513 in sports betting QAGR, followed by MotorCity Casino with $552,841 and MGM Grand Detroit with $405,385. The total amount of sports bets processed by the casinos was $24.8 million, resulting in gross receipts of $1.9 million. Additionally, $70,714 in state taxes and $86,428 in retail sports betting tax was paid to the City of Detroit.
