Youth Employment and Education Scan

The Vodafone New Zealand Foundation is a philanthropic trust that aims to enable positive and healthy outcomes for young New Zealanders. The Foundation has recently focused its grant-making on 12 to 24 year olds not engaged in education, employment or training (a group sometimes described as ‘YNEET’).

Positive youth development is triggered when young people have positive connections to four key social environments: family; friends and peers; school and/or work; and the community. innovate change has a firm commitment to advancing the positive development of young people. We were very pleased to work with the Vodafone Foundation by leading a scan to identify innovative practice and leadership that has demonstrated success with young people who are not well connected to meaningful education, employment or training.

Action and Impact

The Vodafone NZ Foundation and innovate change identified a diverse range of key players working across different sectors to generate insights into game changing practice. Interviews with about 25 people around the country explored effective and innovative practice and identify game changing leadership in the youth employment and education space.

The insights generated from this research are being used to inform funding decisions and directions for the Vodafone NZ Foundation – a philanthropic organisation that has had significant positive impact in New Zealand's youth sector.
