sexual health services needs assessment

Northland District Health Board funds and provides hospitals, primary health care and community care for Northland's population of 160,000 people, many of whom live in small towns, rural areas and isolated communities. One of the many types of healthcare they provide is sexual and reproductive health.

Northland District Health Board approached innovate change to help improve its understanding of how it can best meet its population's needs for sexual health services.

Action and Impact

Working closely with public health leaders and key sexual health service providers in Northland, i nnovate change engaged key professionals and community members, and examined existing knowledge of and demand for sexual health services. We used insights from this evidence and local knowledge to map service provision and identify opportunities for improvement. Through an enhanced understanding of sexual health behaviour and services in the area, we'll be helping Northland District Health Board to achieve its goals of preventing unplanned pregnancies and reducing sexually transmitted infections.
