pacific youth development framework

Secretariat of the Pacific Community

It was super exciting to contribute to the big job of developing a Pacific Youth Development Framework. There are 22 Pacific Island countries and territories, with an estimated total Pacific population of just over 10 million. Of those 10 million people, nearly two million are Pacific young people aged between 15 and 24 years. So we helped to develop a framework for the positive development and well-being of two million people across 22 countries...kind of a big job.

The 18 month project to develop the Pacific Youth Development Framework is being led by a consortium of organisations, including the Secretariat of the Pacific Community , the Pacific Youth Council , UNICEF , the International Labour Organisation (ILO) , the Commonwealth Youth Programme , UNDP , UNESCO , the Pacific islands Forum Secretariat , and the United Nations Population Fund .

Between June and August 2012, innovate change and Debbie Edwards developed an options paper that set out clear pathways the organisations could take to go about developing the Framework.

With that done, the Secretariat of the Pacific Community asked us to work with them on the next stage – developing the first draft of the Framework. This task came to an end in March 2013.

This was great work and a real privilege to be working with such committed people.

We are passionate about the positive development of young people, and have a staunch commitment to the Pacific as our home region – these two reasons made this project particularly awesome.

a third of the working age population in the Pacifi c are between 15 and 24 years old
