The GB Gambling Commission stated that it currently has no plans to mandate a specific approach. This statement was made in response to a consultation from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) regarding the UK’s data policy post-Brexit. The consultation included a section on “innovative data sharing solutions” which involved open banking systems for businesses to share customer data. The ICO responded to the consultation, expressing support for data-sharing to assess customer risk accurately. However, the ICO also emphasized the need for clarity on data protection responsibilities and principles. UK Gambling Minister Chris Philp welcomed the ICO’s findings and called for the industry to work on a data-sharing solution to reduce gambling harm. Industry trade group the Betting and Gaming Council noted the ICO’s report and expressed intentions to work through its findings. The Gambling Commission found the report to be valuable but has no immediate plans to enforce a single customer view requirement. They expect the industry to develop and test solutions that address the challenges set forth.
