Genius Sports has confirmed its acquisition of FanHub, a provider of technology solutions for games, betting, and social activation. The deal also includes the purchase of FanHub’s suite of free-to-play games, such as fantasy sports, trivia, bracket challenges, pick ’em, and polling games. Founded in 2012, FanHub operates across Australia, the UK, US, and Ukraine and has partnerships with major sports leagues like the National Football League, Major League Baseball, and Major League Soccer, as well as gambling operators like Betway and PointsBet.
Through the integration of FanHub’s solutions, Genius Sports aims to enhance its media services and content solutions, driving customer activity, fan engagement, sponsor activation, and lower cost per acquisition. The addition of the new free-to-play games portfolio will enable Genius to deliver tailored marketing campaigns along with live odds, rich data and statistics, video highlights, and messaging.
The completion of the deal, subject to customary closing conditions, is expected before the end of the current quarter. Genius Sports chief executive Mark Locke stated that the acquisition of FanHub will expand the company’s global audience, accelerate the convergence of sports, betting, and media, and provide exciting new content platforms for their sports, betting, and media partners.
FanHub founder, chairman, and chief executive Tim Lamb expressed enthusiasm about joining the Genius Sports family and the potential opportunities for their clients and staff. The agreement follows Genius’ recent business combination with dMY Technology Group Inc. II, which resulted in the company going public on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol GENI with a valuation of $1.50bn.
