Mississippi saw a significant increase in monthly revenue from sports betting, reaching $6.7m in February. This marked a 31.4% increase from January’s revenue of $5.1m and a 36.7% increase from December’s revenue of $4.9m. Despite a decrease in total bets placed, with a total handle of $44.6m in January, the state still experienced growth in revenue.
Coastal casinos in Mississippi continue to be the most popular choice for bettors, with $29.1m in bets and a revenue of $4.0m. American football betting accounted for the majority of revenue at these venues, with $1.6m generated from $12.0m in bets. Central casinos saw a revenue of $1.5m from a handle of $9.1m, while northern casinos had a revenue of $1.2m from $6.4m in bets.
Mississippi lawmakers are considering several bills to legalize online sports betting, with House Bill 774 allowing all 26 land-based casinos in the state to launch online sports betting. Other bills, such as HB271 and HB635, are also seeking to legalize sports betting, following the authorization of a sports betting task force last year.
