In September 2022, players in Iowa spent 22.8% more on sports betting compared to the previous month, with a total wager of $200.2m.
The monthly handle for September was also 74.1% higher than August, reaching $141.2m.
Out of the total bet in September, $222.3m was spent online, while $23.4m was spent at retail sportsbooks in Iowa.
In terms of revenue, sports wagering net receipts for September amounted to $24.1m.
This figure was 5.1% lower than September last year but represented a significant increase of 78.5% compared to August of 2023, which saw $13.5m in revenue.
Online sports betting accounted for $20.9m of the revenue in September, while retail wagering contributed $3.1m.
Among the operators in Iowa, Diamond Jo in Dubuque and partner FanDuel held the top spot.
Their partnership generated $6.0m in revenue from a total of $52.6m in wagers for September.
Wild Rose in Jefferson and partner DraftKings secured the second position, with $3.4m in revenue from a $42.0m sports betting handle.
Sister property, the Wild Rose in Clinton, followed in third place with sports betting revenue of $2.8m.
The casino, also partnered with DraftKings, processed $31.7m in total wagers in September.
Some other notable operators in Iowa included the Wild Rose in Emmetsburg, another DraftKings partner, with $2.6m in revenue from $26.0m in bets, and Diamond Jo in Worth, which also works with DraftKings and posted $2.6m in revenue from $21.7m in bets.
In August, the sports betting tax reached $1.6m, and players won a total of $221.7m.
