In July, sports bettors wagered a total of $108.6m, marking a 22.2% increase compared to the same month last year. However, it was an 11.3% decrease from the $122.4m wagered in June of this year.
Out of the total bets, $98.4m was placed online, while $10.2m was wagered at retail sportsbooks.
Revenue from sports betting saw a significant year-on-year increase of 57.7%, rising from $7.1m in July 2021. It also experienced a 33.3% increase from $8.4m in June this year, despite the lower amount wagered.
The online sports betting sector generated $10.1m in revenue, while the retail sector brought in $1.1m.
Among the individual operators, Diamond Jo in Dubuque, home to a FanDuel sportsbook, emerged as the top performer. It earned $2.6m in revenue from a $26.6m wagering volume. Wild Rose in Jefferson, in partnership with DraftKings, secured the second position with $1.1m in revenue and a $12.5m handle. The Grand Falls Casino Resort and Betfred ranked third, earning $1.1m in revenue with a handle of $2.3m.
In terms of tax revenue, regulated sports betting activity in June contributed $754,292.
Internet Vikings, a Swedish igaming hosting business, recently launched its operations in Iowa. This expansion allows the company to collaborate with licensed operators in the state and provide support for their igaming offerings. Iowa joins a list of US states, including Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and West Virginia, where Internet Vikings operates its igaming hosting operations.
