The adjusted gross revenue for the month of February in sports-betting amounted to $35.4m (£25.8m/€29.8m), representing a 28.3% decrease from the record-breaking $49.4m reported in January. This decline marks the first of its kind since the state’s licensees began accepting bets in July 2020.

Out of the total revenue for the month, online wagering accounted for $33.3m, significantly surpassing the $2.1m generated by land-based sportsbooks. Par-A-Dice Gaming Corporation, operating a FanDuel sportsbook, lidered the market with $11.7m in revenue, despite experiencing a loss of $24,123 from retail betting. Followed closely by Casino Queen and DraftKings with $10.9m in revenue, and Churchill Downs’ Midwest Gaming & Entertainment and Rush Street Interactive with $7.5m.

Operators paid approximately $5.8m in taxes, with the majority being $5.3m based on the state’s standard 15% tax rate. An additional 2% tax on bets placed in Cook County, including Chicago, generated the remaining $541,832. In terms of handle, players wagered a total of $509.8m on sports during February, a 12.3% decrease from the record $581.6m seen in January.
