Echazu, a professional tennis player, has received a ban of two years and three months for his involvement in match-fixing and receiving money to influence the outcome of a tennis match.
The ban, which started on 6 August last year and will last until 5 November 2023, prohibits Echazu from participating in or attending any tennis event authorized or sanctioned by international tennis governing bodies or national associations.
In addition, Echazu is required to pay a fine of $10,000 (€8,827/£7,363), with $8,000 suspended pending compliance with the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program (TACP) to prevent further violations.
Specifically, Echazu violated Section D.1.d and Section D.1.f of the 2018 TACP by attempting to manipulate the outcome of a match and accepting money to negatively influence a player’s performance.
The ruling was made by independent anti-corruption hearing officer Raj Parker. Recently, the ITIA also imposed a four-year ban on Nicolás Arreche, an Argentinian tennis player, for match-fixing.
