The suspension of NFL player Calvin Ridley will last until the conclusion of the 2022 season. Ridley engaged in betting activities for a five-day period in November 2021 while he was away from the team for mental health reasons. He admitted to placing bets totaling $1,500, including parlay bets on the Falcons, during his time in Florida.
The investigation conducted by the league found no evidence of inside information use, match-fixing, or awareness of Ridley’s betting activities among his coaches and teammates. However, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell emphasized the importance of upholding the game’s integrity and the potential damage to public confidence and player reputations.
Ridley’s suspension will end on February 15, 2023, and he has the option to appeal. It is worth noting that in December 2019, player Josh Shaw received an indefinite suspension for wagering on games during that season. Shaw was reinstated in 2021 but did not sign with another NFL team.
