Kindbridge, an organization focused on researching and treating gambling-related issues, has unveiled promising findings from a recent study. The research, conducted by Kindbridge Behavioral Health, indicates that individuals who undergo treatment for gambling addiction show significant improvements in their mental health, reinforcing the effectiveness of problem gambling interventions. While some individuals may experience relapses or unsuccessful treatment outcomes, the overall impact on mental health is positive.

Immediate mental health benefits from gambling addiction treatment

Kindbridge has long maintained that gambling addiction is often linked to other mental health issues, such as insomnia, anxiety, depression, and alcohol abuse. The organization’s latest study suggests that treating gambling addiction can also alleviate these co-occurring conditions.

The findings are based on data collected from Kindbridge’s clinical trials. Over a 12-week period, clients who participated in the study experienced a significant reduction in depressive symptoms, with many showing minimal or no signs of depression by the end of the treatment. This improvement was attributed to Kindbridge’s specialized interventions, which include counseling and education.

The study involved 279 clients, with Kindbridge carefully analyzing the treatment process to gain deeper insights into what contributes to successful recovery. According to the organization, many of these clients sought help after self-excluding through programs offered by gambling operators, and their motivation to recover was rated as highly committed, scoring a 10/10.

Effective treatment across demographics

Kindbridge’s research also highlights that their treatment methods have been effective across various demographics, including different generations and genders. The organization acknowledged subtle differences in treatment approaches between individuals addicted to land-based casinos versus online gambling, but overall, the core strategies remained consistent.

A key component of Kindbridge’s approach is empowering individuals in their recovery journey. The organization emphasizes best practices and provides appropriate interventions while encouraging clients to take control of their own recovery.

Addressing underlying issues linked to gambling addiction

The study further suggests that tackling problem gambling directly can help address other mental health conditions that may contribute to the onset of gambling addiction. Kindbridge reported that 58% of participants in the study preferred online gambling, underscoring the need for targeted interventions in this area.

In addition to its work with the general population, Kindbridge has been proactive in addressing specific groups that may be at higher risk for gambling addiction. For example, the company established a Military Gambling Awareness Committee in June, aiming to support military personnel struggling with gambling issues and enhance their combat readiness.

Overall, Kindbridge’s findings offer hope that with the right treatment and support, individuals struggling with gambling addiction can achieve significant improvements in their mental health and overall well-being.
